When you’re reading this, you will probably have noticed the website a thing or two has changed on the site. In fact, the site has changed quite dramatically overnight. Over the past few days, the website has undergone a major update, introducing a brand-new look!
In this post, I’ll quickly go over what’s changed and why.
Why change at all?
It’s no secret PanzerPlace runs on the popular WordPress CMS. The introduction of WordPress’ “Full Site Editing” feature earlier this year, promised to make managing a theme much easier than ever before. However, the last PanzerPlace theme did not fully support this new feature, and brought with it a bunch of arbitrary restrictions that became more and more frustrating to deal with.
The current theme change allows PanzerPlace to stay current, and utilize all the juicy new WordPress features, all while providing a better experience for you, the reader!
The end game
The most noticeable change includes a new and less cluttered home page, which you’ll hopefully find easier to navigate. Similarly, the archive pages have seen a redesign as well, displaying articles grouped by tags, category or series (f.e. see the Haustenbeck’s Heritage series page)
With the introduction of a new default font and a wider site width, readability should be much improved as well! To top it all off, since the site is now less reliant on third party plugins, performance on both mobile and desktop devices should be increased as well, resulting in fast(er) page loads than before. 🙂
I hope these changed combined will lead to an overall better user experience for you, and enhanced writing experience for me. I have not been posting much the last year, but I promise you, I have been anything but idle. Hopefully, all the hours of spitting through archival material will result in many articles next year.
I’d be happy to hear what you think of these changes. What do you think of the new theme? What would you like to see added? Sound off in the comments! 😉
