[Video] Tiger II V2 Extra: On the Move

This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series Tiger II V2

On January 14, 2020, Tiger II V2 was placed in the Nationaal Militar Museum, the Netherlands. The plan was for it to stay till September 2021. Due to the COVID-19 situation, plans changed, however, and the loan was extended several times, until January 2022. Tiger II V2 served as one of the highlights of the “Him or Me” exhibition (13 February 2020 through 9 January 2022), commemorating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands. In the exhibition, it was shown among German matériel, lined-up opposite a selection of mainly Canadian vehicles and tanks.

On January 31, 2022, it was time for Tiger II V2 to leave the exhibition area. It was temporarily moved to the museum’s depot, awaiting transportation to Sweden, where it will feature in a new exhibition at Arsenalen, Strägnäs. Yours truly was at the museum to capture the move of the Tiger. We’ll start off with a time-lapse, but more video material will be added over time.

This time-lapse shows the Tiger being towed from the main exhibition area of the museum by a Leopard 1V. Before the towing commences, a special A-frame is constructed which aids turning of the vehicle while under tow.

The video below shows the whole process in more detail. Once outside, the Tiger is placed on special mats, reducing friction, enabling the Tiger to turn without damaging its tracks. Finally, the Tiger is winched on a flatbed trailer to make the journey to the nearby depot, from where it will be shipped to Sweden at a later date.
